MIKI HAHN

Model, fashion design student, TV personality and singer Miki Hahn goes acoustic and mellow this time around in her latest album from Viva Records wherein she trades the young sounding pop of 2007’s “That Vibe” for the acoustic guitars, light percussions and strings that permeate in “Intimately Acoustic,” an album of re-worked and acousticized tunes and classics that tailors a different take on well loved pop songs.

Miki Hahn, 20, is the musical stylist of “Intimately Acoustic.” The album leads off with the single “The Sign,” (popularized by Swede pop group Ace Of Base) one has to hear her version of the song to fully appreciate her approach but the words that readily come to mind are “warm,” “personal,” and of course” intimate.” Her 2nd single is “Yellow” originally made to hit by Coldplay which makes it more interesting to hear.

Though the general description of the album falls under acoustic, listeners will be glad to know that a whole assortment of music is covered in Intimately Acoustic. Modern day pop, standards, a bit of jazz, 60’s and 70’s classic pop hits, rock-alternative, you name it, Miki Hahn can definitely sing it. “Most of the songs were chosen by myself, I included songs like “Never My Love” , “You Won’t See Me” and “Dream A Little Dream” because I really have a soft spot for old songs” says Miki, who also plays the acoustic guitar and harmonica among others, she also adds “but I also listen to everything from electro-pop, electronic music, alternative rock and I’m into bands too that’s why you’ll hear “With Or Without You” , “Yellow” and “What Can I Do” in my new album.”

Though this is the first time that Miki records full on acoustic, she says that she has “always loved singing live with an acoustic vibe” and was reminded of it during the recording of her album “I think there’s a warm, raw and earthy feel to doing this kind of music, and that really lent an intimate feel to the album.”

Miki Hahn likens music to fashion, to which she is also an ardent student of. This comes up when the topic of recording an all remake album came up. “I think the classics never go out of style, in fashion design we use old aesthetics and add something to it to make it new, a classic with an edge so to speak, that’s what I aim to achieve with “Intimately Acoustic.” She goes on to enumerate some of the songs that make up her album like “Son Of A Preacher Man” , “At Last” , “Ain’t No Sunshine” , “Midnight At The Oasis” “Whenever I Call You Friend”, songs that sound different when done acoustically yet somehow retaining elements that made them great songs in the first place. “Music like fashion, is revolving, what was fashionable before comes back. It’s a cycle.”

Miki Hahn certainly feels that she has done right by these songs, “I am very proud of these songs even if they’re not mine, the sound is very personal, it’s raw and intimate and you have to really listen to the whole package to really appreciate it.” Viva Records think so too so if its relaxing listening that you want, Intimately Acoustic should be the album that’s in your CD player, MP3 player or whatever’s fashionable with you at the moment.
