Action, humor, and sprinkles of romance, Rurouni Kenshin was definitely an epic film! With the huge following among Filipino audiences as evidenced by its record-setting run at the box-office last year, Japanese director Keishi Otomo and actors Takeru Satoh, Emi Takei and Munetaka Aoki are flying to Manila to grace the Asian Premiere of Rurouni Kenshin.
This was announced by William Ireton, president and representative director of Warner Entertainment Japan Inc., and Francis Soliven, general manager of Warner Bros. Philippines. "We are thrilled to bring director Keishi Otomo and cast members Takeru Satoh, Emi Takei and Munetaka Aoki to Manila so they can personally thank and engage with the loyal fans of ‘Rurouni Kenshin’. The Philippines is a very important market for the franchise as proven by the outstanding box office success in Manila of the first ‘Rurouni Kenshin’ film," Ireton said.
There will be an invitational red carpet premiere scheduled on Aug. 6 at the SM Megamall and the Japanese talents are also expected to interact with the media and fans in a press conference on Aug. 7 at the Glorietta Activity Center.
“Kyoto Inferno” which opens across the Philippines on August 20 is the first of two sequels to the 2013 blockbuster “Rurouni Kenshin.” The second, titled “The Legend Ends” opens on September 24. Both films will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
This live-action adaptation covers a mix of the first two story arcs of both the anime and manga. This time, Kenshin (played once again by Takeru Satoh) has found an idyllic life in Edo (Tokyo) with kendo instructor Kaoru (Emi Takei) and other friends. However, all that changes when news that another former government assassin, Makoto Shishio (Tatsuya Fujiwara), is on the loose and looking to overthrow the fledgling Meiji government.
Kenshin's former superiors go to him for help, and the red-haired warrior, who swore an oath not to kill again, agrees, sadly turning his back on the peace that he found, and leaving his new friends worried that he will turn back into the bloodthirsty killer he once was.
