Pinoy Archer GABRIEL MORENO Wins Gold In Youth Olympic Games

This is the Philippines' first ever gold medal in the Youth Olympic Games!

Filipino archer Gabriel Moreno won in the mixed international event of archery in the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

The 16-year-old archer, who was ranked 30th among 32 male archers here, teamed up perfectly with Chinese archer Li Jiaman, who ranked No. 3 in the women’s division. 

The tandem swept three sets in the final round winning over Cynthia Freywald from Germany and Mohamad Zolkepeli from Malaysia with a total score of 113-105.

Moreno converted the match’s most important points with a nine on his last arrow that clinched the gold. In the finals, he had 10s in the first and second sets while his teammate Jiaman had a 10 in each of the three sets.

Moreno was also the flag-bearer of the Philippine delegation during the YOG’s opening ceremonies last August 16 didn't expect to win anything in event of over 3,000 athletes from 202 Olympic nations.
