If you're a huge music fan, you'll know that you'll never run out of gigs to watch within the Metro. From Eastwood up north, to Metrowalk in Ortigas, to the homey comforts of Saguijo and The Collective in Makati, there will always be someone playing good music to watch. But in case you're getting tired of hearing amped guitars and heavy drum beats, maybe it's time to check out something else.
That right there is a dilemma. Is there an alternative to alternative music as we know it? Smart of you to ask, and fortunate of you that we have the answer. If you want to just spend the night chilling with a glass of your preferred Below Zero beer and swaying to gentle beats and melodic croons, raise your hand and say, "Folk U!"
No, that's definitely not an invitation to conflict. On the contrary, it's an invitation to a night of music of the Indie Folk inclinations. Folk U gigs are set to promote and showcase the oft-overlooked magic of the singer/songwriter performances.
With witty shindig titles ("Folk U All Night Long", "Folk U Baby One More Time", "Folk U Like It's Hot", etc.) to boot, it's bound to be always an eclectic night of sung tales of hearts broken, hearts lost, hearts paired, hearts mended.
The Folk U gigs usually feature the likes of the duo Fando & Lis, Hannah & Gabi, Tao Aves, Outerhope, Johnoy Danao and more. If you're not familiar with these names, then that's all the more reason for you to spice up your gig nights with them. Nothing beats the first time, after all. And then you will come back for more. You will be doing your eardrums a solid favor, too.
Shindigs will resume next month, in May, and so it should be just a matter of time before you are able to set a date with the Folk U's. Do watch out for more details on that right here!
