"We Are The World" Marks Its 30th Anniversary!

"There comes a time when we heed a certain call, when the world must come together as one."

There's something magical seeing some of the biggest names in music together as one! And exactly 30 years ago, one of the most legendary nights in music history occured! An all-star group of the most diverse American artists answered a call and united to record a song, all to help end famine in Africa.

That iconic song is "We Are The World" written by 80s superstars Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. It was produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are The World which sold over 20 million copies worldwide! The song also became the fastest-selling American pop single and was the first ever single to be certified multi-platinum!

It was Harry Belafonte who thought of having megastars like Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Diana Ross, Kenny Rogers Bruce Springsteen and other celebrities to take part in the remarkable recording of a song all for charity!

As today marks the song's 30th anniversary, let's take a look at the original song recorded back in January 1985. Sadly, some artists have already passed away like MJ and Ray Charles but others are still out sharing their music.
