Carrie Underwood Rescues Pooch Abandoned Along Highway

American Idol alum Carrie Underwood keeps on giving. After being a champion for education, she now turns her attention to canine welfare.

In a random act of kindness, Underwood provided a "temporary home" for an abandoned Lab she rescued from the side of the highway during the holidays. She took the injured dog to the vet and subsequently found it a home with some of her neighbors.

The country singer blogged about the details of the rescue, explaining that she was traveling with her own dogs, Ace and Penny, coming from her parents' home when she spotted two dogs by the side of the highway. The other dog was already dead. "My guess is that the dogs were thrown out of their car by their owners on the highway," she wrote.

Underwood named the rescued pooch, Stella. When she finally found a home for her, Underwood revealed, "I cried when she walked out the door."
