It was one hell of a night for rockers and hipsters as Death Cab For Cutie performed at the NBC Tent last night! MYXph was there to witness the Grammy-nominated alternative rock band perform for their Filipino fans. And it was quite an experience! Local act Never the Strangers set the tone and warmed up the stage for our guests from Bellingham, Washington.
And then, it was time for the main event! DCFC started off their 20-song set with "A Lack Of Color". The crowd acted "possessed" once Nick Harmer's distorted bass lines introduced their hit "I Will Possess Your Heart". Hit after hit the audience were in a frenzy as they played new tracks from Codes And Keys including "You Are A Tourist" mixing them with old songs like "Grapevine Fires", "Title and Registration", "Soul Meets Body"and my personal fave "Cath"; ending the main set and making everyone dance to "The Sound of Settling".
For the encore, they played "Home Is A Fire", "Meet Me On The Equinox", "A Movie Script Ending", before making most of the people in the venue cry with their last song "Transatlanticism". The night was highlighted by vocalist Ben Gibbard showing he had some percussive skills as he played the drums with drummer Jason Mcgerr and jammed on the song "We Looked Like Giants"!
The band has produced seven albums of great songs but it was a whole new experience seeing and hearing them perform live! Overall it was an awesome show; a two hour audio-visual trip only a band like Death Cab For Cutie could deliver.
