Sad news for John Mayer fans. His throat condition has just recurred and had no choice but to take an "indefinite break" from touring as recommended by his doctors. His new album, "Born and Raised" will still be released on May 22, 2012 but will have to cancel the promotional tour around the U.S.
John expressed his sentiments via his own Tumblr blog
, and says that he'll continue to write new material for another album while on vocal rest. John also shared the possibility of surgery and a "chemically-imposed period of silence" during that period, so there will be no singing for him until his granuloma (nodules that form on the vocal cords) clears up.
"IÆm pretty emotionally burnt out at the moment, but please know how hard I tried to resolve this and how disappointed I am that I canÆt perform this record yet. IÆm completely bummed, especially for all of you who started making plans to see a show. Nothing feels worse than having to break the stage down before the performance, and I mean nothing. I love this band you were going to hear, I love the guys and girls I work with, and the only thing that stops me from devolving into a puddle of tears is knowing that itÆs a long life, and the greatest gift in the world is being able to create music no matter what the circumstances. So these are the new circumstances, and IÆll find a way to make it mean something. ThatÆs all you can ever do."
They have also announced tour cancellations on his official website, johnmayer.com
, which was relaunched last February 28, 2012 the same time his new single, "Shadow Days" was released
