Sabrina Makes Waves Overseas

Sabrina is nothing, if not, patient.

Unbeknownst to many, the singer (dubbed Asia's Acoustic Sweetheart), has been in the industry for 5 years now, and has been recording songs for a combined 7 years.

Throughout the years, she has changed management, embraced different kinds of genres and has released original as well as cover songs (Watch as she talks about reinventing herself).

Incidentally, it's her "I Love Acoustic" albums which achieved the most success, thus far, allowing her to gain a substantial following overseas. The latest of the series, "I Love Acoustic 4," has reached multi-platinum status in Indonesia. Her success abroad has also been noticed locally, with "I Love Acoustic 4" debuting at #1 at Astroplus and #9 at Odyssey. She also won "International Achievement Award" at the recent Awit Awards and named "Most Downloaded Artist" for 2010 by I-Gateway Mobile Philippines, Inc.

Despite her accomplishments, however, Sabrina admits that, ironically, she has more fans overseas than in the Philippines. She recalls an instance where she was invited to perform at an annual book fest in Singapore:

Sabrina: Nakakahiya... Mahiyain pala! (laughs)

Aside from being patient, Sabrina is also refreshingly candid. As said, when it comes to self-promotion and using the Internet to get noticed by mainstream media and gaining followers, Sabrina says it's just not her style, instead, she believes that if you've got the goods, people (mainstream media included) will eventually take notice.

"Feeling ko yung nagagawa ko, feeling ko minsan useless, pero sabi ko, in time, lalabas din 'to. In time," Sabrina said.

Her latest music video, a mellow version of the Maroon 5 (Feat. Christina Aguilera) song "Moves Like Jagger," is currently at #19 on the Pinoy MYX Countdown. (Click here to watch as she talks about her most "daring" video so far.)

Sabrina will be returning to Indonesia on the 24th of March (Saturday) for a show at Supermal Karawaci in Jakarta. You can also catch her on March 31 (Saturday), 5PM at SM Morilao.
