MYX honored one of the pillars of OPM, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab last night at the MYX Music Awards 2012 at The Music Museum last March 13, 2012.
The award came as a surprise for the Maestro, who was just originally asked to present the final award of the night, Favorite Music Video.
To pay tribute to some of his hits, his friends from the music industry performed for the MYX Magna awardee with some of MYX Music Awards' most memorable number yet with a roster of OPM greats like The Company, Geneva Cruz, Jed Madela, 2011 MYX Magna Awardee Regine Velasquez and classic Filipino balladeer Basil Valdez.
Mr. C playfully called out the younger generation of artists, saying "Tatanda ka rin Chito. Ebe... Yeng! Tatanda ka rin." He then proceeded to thank God, and his family for their support and patience."
"I know you love me very much and I love you very much. Salamat sa pag-unawa... Baka lagi kayong nag-c-complain na lagi akong nasa piano at may ginagawang bagong kanta. Maraming salamat!"
The MYX Magna 2012 awardee was in good spirits, joking around with the OPM artists who performed the special tribute for Mr. C.
"Ang susunod na pasasalamatan ko, from my past. Geneva from Smokey Mountain. Wow! Ang laki mo na. Maraming malaki!" (laughter)
To MYX Magna 2011 recipient Regine Velasquez, he said, "Regine, alam mo, di na tayo nagkikita, sa Twitter lang. Nagpapadede ka lagi," soliciting laughs from the audience and Regine, who quickly replied, "Kailangan ulit!"
On a serious note, he thanked MYX for always being supportive of OPM.
"[N]ang hirap na hirap tayo sa ating industriya, Filipino music industry, hindi nag-waver ang MYX sa pagtulong sa lahat sa inyo." Then took a playful swipe at MYX Channel Head AndrT Allan Alvarez.
"Andre, andyan ka pa rin. Tatanda ka din! Matanda ka na!"
