Ely Buendia has a new band called Apartel! The Pupil frontman plays bass and shares vocal duties with singer-songwriter Jay Ortega on the soul band which also features Coco Coo and Redge Concepcion on guitar, RJ Pineda on keyboard, and Pat Sarabia on percussion.
According to Ely during our MYXclusive interview, their cool band name was derived from the new wave group The Motels! "Inspired directly by their name yung pangalan ng Apartel although hindi naman kapareho yung sound namin," said the Pinoy rock icon who really liked the imagery that the name Apartel evokes.
"Classic soul sound packed with modern twist and themes."
When asked about Apartel's musical inspirations, Ely noted that the members share a common predilection towards Motown and the Manila Sound from the 70s! Check out our MYXclusive interview below!
If you want to hear Apartel perform, you can check them out during the launch of their debut video "Is It Hip" tonight at Victoria Court Malate!
