MYXclusive: "Ang Babaeng Humayo" Hits Cinemas This Week!

Lav Diaz' latest masterpiece Ang Babaeng Humayo (The Woman Who Left) - which bagged the very prestigious Golden Lion award in the 73rd Venice Film Festival - will hit cinemas nationwide starting September 28. The acclaimed filmmaker collaborates for the first time with Ms. Charo Santos while he reunites with John Lloyd Cruz! The two previously worked together in the 8-hour film Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis which won the Silver Bear in the Berlin Film Festival.

Ang Babaeng Humayo is a story of a woman's journey to redemption, revenge, and vindication. Horacia is a former schoolteacher who is released from prison after spending three decades in a rural correctional facility for a murder she didn't commit. Her colorful escapade is the film's nucleus and the former ABS-CBN President and CEO gave life to this character with such tenacity and perfection. It's a great comeback of sorts as she didn't appear on the big screen for 17 years. This is perhaps her most challenging role yet.

CSC openly and earnestly praised her director during the press conference as she recalled some notable moments during the making of this award-winning film. She also revealed that she even visited a correctional facility and talked to female inmates to know how to handle her intense movie character.

According to Direk Lav, this film was inspired by the short story "God Sees The Truth, But Waits" by Leo Tolstoy. Relatively shorter than his other films at 228 minutes, it's packed with an amazing supporting cast which includes Michael de Mesa, Shamaine Centenera-Beuncamino, Nonie Buencamino, Marj Lorico, Mae Paner, Kakai Bautista, Lao Rodriguez, Kyla Domingo, and more.

Follow Horacia on her journey and discover where she's headed in this film which received what is said to be one of longest standing ovations in the history of the Venice Film Festival. Filipino movie fans are in for an unforgettable treat starting September 28!
