Macklemore and Ryan Lewis unveiled the striking new single "Drug Dealer" featuring Ariana DeBoo. The song is kind of a continuation of their This Unruly Mess I've Made track "Kevin" which tackles opiate addiction.
"Drug Dealer" is about America's opioid problem, listing famous deaths because of drug overdose including Prince, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, and Heath Ledger.
In the song, Macklemore - who has been vocal about his past addiction and even talked to US President Barack Obama for a documentary on opioid abuse - raps "Death certificate signed the prenup / Ain't no coming back from this Percocet / After this ambien, adderral, xanax binge / Best friends with the thing that's killing me."
The duo also slammed pharmaceutical companies who get rich from producing prescription yet dangerous drugs. The lyrics goes: "The whole while, these billionaires, they kicked up / Paying out congress so we take their drugs / Murderers who will never face the judge / And we dancin' to a song about our face goin' numb."
