Three hours after Little Mix dropped their track "Shout Out To My Ex", fellow girl group G.R.L. seemingly alluded to its similarity with their 2014 single "Ugly Heart" in a tweet.
Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson initially kept quiet about the controversy, but the girls had to address the issue in an interview with Belgian radio station Qmusic.
"We're actually friends with Emmalyn from G.R.L. and she loves the song," Jade said. "I think every song is going to have a similar chord sequence, slightly similar lyrics and melodies – it happens all the time, but it doesn't mean that they're not both incredible songs."
Leigh-Anne said the American group's single "sounds a lot more country" before the radio host played the two songs to the girls. Jade continued to be diplomatic but was interrupted by Perrie who fiercely said "Stop trying to hop on the bandwagon!" Jesy also piped in with "Stop trying to get publicity!"
