Born to a Filipino father and an Australian mother, Cyrus Villanueva never thought he'd get as far as winning the X Factor Australia Season 7. The best part about winning, he said, was knowing that there are people who love his music as much as he does.
Three days after his joyous victory, the then 19-year-old flew down to Melbourne to record his debut album, Cyrus, in two days. But earlier this year, the Fil-Aussie has been experimenting on different sounds. "I'm still learning so much about being myself, my artistry, the music industry as a whole. It's just an ongoing learning journey for me."
Cyrus, whose Dad has gotten him into music, has been working on finding out what type of artist he wants to be and what type of music he wants to release, but has admitted that his sound has evolved to a "sort of urban soul R&B pop."
Next year, Cyrus will be releasing his very first original single and his second album. Filipinos has been supportive of the singer since his first day at the X Factor. He remembered having more people from the Philippines showing their support for him than there were in Australia.
"At the moment, I'm just trying to get everything work right with my own music and this project. It's the first and biggest project that I've released and I'm going to show the public."
