Armed with good looks, a killer smile, and a cool attitude, MYX VJ Donny has quickly become everyone's dream guy! The 19-year old son of celebrity couple Maricel Laxa and Anthony Pangilinan has yet to try out acting but he's already got super devoted fans! As if you needed more reasons to drool over "Blueberry Frog", here are 9 things that Donato Antonio "Donny" Pangilinan is really good at!
From 2012 'til last year, the 6'1" varsity player served as the small forward of Brent International School's team. But even with the recognitions Donny has received in the sport, he's still unsure of making it a profession. (He will be taking up a business-related course in college, hopefully, this year.)
When asked if it was his dad who taught him, Donny playfully said "No" thrice before teasingly claiming that he's better. But thanks to his dad who's got friends in the Alaska Aces, Donato has played ball with PBA pros! "He made me join the training [of Alaska], shooting around just with the two captains of the team."
Tip for fan girls: Donny idolizes Jimmy Alapag and the Alaska Aces in the local league while his favorite from the NBA is Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
What was originally something the whole family took part in just to cheer for their dad led to Donny's interest in cross country and track and field. By now, it's not a surprise that the "fastest in [Brent's varsity] team" would be hailed the MVP twice in both sports.
According to Donny, the best triathlon competition he's ever participated in is the Anvaya Cove Invitational Triathlon where the Pangilinans are the reigning champs in the individual and relay categories for three years in a row. That's some #FamGoals!
3. Water Sports
Wakeboarding, surfing, jet skiing, banana boating, kayaking, cliff diving—you name it, Donny loves it. "We just do it for fun and it ends up being a hobby."
4. Horseback Riding
We finally found your knight in shining armor and his white horse. Ta-da!
Surprisingly, Donny's photo from the beach is not just for aesthetic. Though he doesn't compete in races, Donny frequents Tagaytay to ride. Keep an eye out for our VJ next time you're in the mount!
"My dad used to own horses when they were kids. My Lolo bought them each a horse so ever since they've been part of the family." If he had one, Donny would name his horse Antonio - after himself.
His first project was when he was just so young, he can't even remember what clothing company it was for. Donny's shoots exude unlabored simplicity and naturalness. His secrets? (1) Just be yourself. (2) Study the angles. Study what side of you looks good. (3) Get good photographers. Even when you suck at modelling, they'll make you look good. Thanks Donny, we'll keep those tips in mind!
In 2016 alone, Donny went to 10 concerts! Our very own MYX VJ got to see The Chainsmokers and Selena Gomez when they took the Philippine stage last year. But his favorite event was The Meadows Music Festival in New York where he witnessed amazing performances by Kanye West, Chance The Rapper, Mail The Horse, The Temper Trap, and more.
This 2017, he's mostly excited about Coldplay's A Head Full of Dreams Tour in Manila. Maybe you'll end up standing beside him!
If he had to choose between the two, he'd pick the latter. Why, you ask? He likes doing both, but hasn't "explored singing that much yet." The closest thing to singing you would see Donny do is his musical.ly cover of an Eminem song.
"I was in the room with (my sister) Hannah and she was like, 'Do you know the verse from Eminem's "Rap God"?' so I started memorizing it. And then, the best way to memorize was through musical.ly," Donny narrates animatedly.
"That's the first and last I'll probably ever post. I was just bored." Awww. But you can check out the #myxbts videos on Instagram to see Donny jamming with the MYX squad!
8. Humanitarian aid
Donny's swoon-worthy smile is already a dead giveaway of his heart of gold. Unknown to many, he actively participates in the anti-human trafficking organization Called To Rescue with his dad and visits detention centers to donate basic necessities and play basketball with juvenile offenders. But mostly, Donny has this deep affection for kids.
"I really love kids especially when they're just so happy and you see they don't have much," he confesses. Last year, Donny went to different barangays in Taguig for Food Truck. "This was the photo in one of the barangays after they ate. I was like, "What pose do you wanna do?" and they were like, "Ganito na lang... pogi... so I copied them," shared Donny about the photo below.
He has a soft spot for the elderly too. Our hearts are melting for this sweet, sweet boy.
9. Being a MYX VJ
Donny's showbiz career kicked off after appearing on several shows in ABS-CBN including Magandang Buhay and ASAP. His brief exposure caused his social media following to blow up!
"I was really interested in [becoming a MYX VJ] because it's something I've actually watched in my house. I see the VJs and I could see how cool it was to just talk about songs, talk about things that I love," admits Donny.
"I didn't expect for it to be this fun. The MYX crew is just amazing, everyone behind and in front of the camera. It's a good way of getting familiar with what happens in productions, getting the hang of just talking in front of the camera, in front of people."
