Beastie Boys' "MCA" Succumbs To Cancer At 47

The hiphop group Beastie Boys says farewell to one of their boys, Adam Yauch, better known as MCA. He was 47.

He had been undergoing treatment in 2009 after discovering a lump in his salivary gland.

The official statement from the Beastie Boys says: "It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam 'MCA' Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old."

He was already unable to attend their own Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction last April and even cancelled their performance at the same event since only two Beastie Boys, Mike D and Ad-Rock, were present.

The Beastie Boys have sold millions of albums and has earned multiple Grammy awards since the early 90's. MCA also directed some of the Beastie Boys most memorable music videos for "So Whatcha Want", "Intergalactic", "Body Movin'" and "Ch-Check It Out". After undergoing treatment, he was able to work on their latest album, "Hot Sauce Committee" in 2011.
