According to NME
, U2Æs Bono has overtaken Paul McCartney as the worldÆs richest musician with his Facebook shares now valued at $1.5 billion. According to the British music magazine, the 52-year-old rocker invested in the company back in 2009, purchasing 2.3 percent of the shares for $90 million through his private equity firm, Elevation Partners.
Bono however, later denied these claims, telling MSNBC
, "Contrary to reports, I'm not a billionaire or going to be richer than any Beatle - and not just in the sense of money, by the way, The Beatles are untouchable - those billionaire reports are a joke."
Now that Facebook is currently valued at over $100billion (ú63 billion), it was thought that this would make Bono's share worth over $1.5 billion (ú940 million) and put him above Paul McCartney, who is currently the world's richest rock star with a fortune of ú665 million.
