Avi Kaplan shocked fans with his announcement on the official Facebook page of Pentatonix! Accompanied by bandmates Kevin Olusola, Kirstin Taylor, Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi, Avi revealed that he will be "taking a step back" from the a cappella group!
Although he will still be performing with PTX in all their previously announced shows, Avi will presumably miss the group's other activities from here on out. According to the singer, he can no longer keep up with their "unbelievably fast pace" and he doesn't want to inhibit their success "so I have to do what's best for the group and I have to do what's best for me."
"It has been the hardest decision I've ever had to make in my life," he said. Watch his announcement below:
Avi also promised the fans: "I'm still going to be doing music and I'm going to be doing it with my whole heart." In fact, he recently shared the music video for "Fields and Pier" from his other project Avriel and the Sequoias.
Pentatonix is currently on the MYX charts with their version of "Bohemian Rhapsody". You can also watch them on MYX Presents this Sunday, May 14 at 3am and 4pm!
