Phillip Phillips, who was crowned Season 11 champion Wednesday, has suffered from a buildup of kidney stones, his father said at the show's official after-party. "Eight operations since we
started American Idol."
The singer opened up about the challenges he had to go through before winning the title. He admitted that his kidney stone issues almost forced him to quit the singing competition.
"It was rough at times and there were a couple of times I thought about going ahead and getting out and getting the surgery done. I came close to almost dropping out to get the surgery done. But I had a lot of great doctors and a lot of great people who helped me out through it. I'm blessed to have that."
E! News has learned that the American Idol finalist will undergo more kidney surgeries in Georgia after completing publicity duties for the show, addressing a pressing health concern that has made him suffer throughout the season.
But what could this mean for the upcoming American Idol tour this summer?
Don't you worry, people! Phillips said that the upcoming surgery won't affect his being part of the "Idols Live" tour (which starts July 6 and comes to Nassau Coliseum on Aug. 22).
