The Filipino musical Ang Larawan is heading to the big screen! Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, who wrote the music for the acclaimed stage production, partnered with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra and Star Music for the film's soundtrack which will be released this September!
Pinoy film enthusiasts have been waiting for the movie musical which boasts the talents of Rachel Alejandro, Joanna Ampil, Sandino Martin, Nonie Buencamino, Celeste Legaspi, and Paulo Avelino among others. And now, the anticipation is building up with the forthcoming release of the OST's first single "Kahapon, Ngayon At Bukas" by Rachel and Ebe Dancel.
Talking about his creation, Maestro Ryan is proud with how it turned out. "It's very unusual for a musical to be a movie. So this is rare in many, many aspects," he said. "Lahat ng cast is required to sing, kahit si Paulo Avelino. Ang sarap gumawa ng music kapag very well supported. Ang ganda ng music."
He continued, "Gustung-gusto ko 'tong version na 'to kasi kahit yung live kinakanta nila. May mga live na kasama doon sa soundtrack pero ang kahanga-hanga, hindi mo mapapansin kung kailan yung live at kailan yung recorded."
The cast also gushed over Yeng Constantino's contribution to the project, "Kay Sarap Ng Buhay". "Napakaganda ng version. Ibang-ibang-iba," they said.
Ang Larawan is based on the play A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino by Nick Joaquin which was translated by fellow National Artist Rolando Tinio. It's expected to arrive in cinemas by the end of 2017.
