Founder of the OPM band Smokey Mountain, Ryan Cayabyab, officially teamed up with Star Music for the acquisiton and redistribution of the group's classic hits. Oh what a joy!
Marking 30 years of musical and social impact, the songwriter is now ready to reach greater heights for the '90s group. "There is a big chance for my old songs to be known again. Ito ang reason kaya we have this new partnership," Ryan said.
Present also during the contract signing was OG member James Coronel who shared excitement over this comeback era. "There will be a lot of exciting things to come because this would be a collab. Siguro gagawan ng bagong tunog, bagong visuals... a lot of things are being discussed and one of them is putting up a new group," he revealed.
When it comes to working with moden artists, Maestro Ryan strictly wants one thing. "They must fit into the Smokey Mountain's mode. Kasi kailangan lumabas, medyo authentic ang dating. 'Di pwedeng sosyal, na ang gaganda agad nila."
It's still unclear whether more tracks will come into play but, if Filipinos call for it, maybe it could be an easy discussion. "Sana maantig ulit ang aking damdamin para makasulat ng bagong awitin na maaaring makaapekto at makatulong sa ating bayan," Ryan hoped.
As such, James added, "We will keep the concept of Smokey Mountain. Smokey Mountain will always be Smokey Mountain - socially relevant with socially relevant songs."
Smokey Mountain are popular for their songs "Paraiso, "Better World", "Escape", "Da Coconut Nut" and "Can This Be Love".
