Who says a song can't be hauntingly sad and beautiful at the same time?
ItÆs truly hard not to fall in love with this manÆs distinctively flawless voice, moving lyrics and infectious melodies. Having toured Malaysia and Singapore just recently, 20-year old singer-songwriter JENSEN GOMEZ
has pretty much achieved something outstanding for his age amidst the challenges of being an independent artist. "Gusto ko lang tumugtog, gusto ko lang magsulat ng songs na pwedeng maka-relate yung mga tao tsaka yun yung mission statement nung nagsisimula pa lang ako. I wanna make music for as many people as possible," shared Gomez in an exclusive interview with MYXph.com
This Music Production student started writing his own songs when he was 16 and recalled the first song he's ever written, "It's in the album. It's called 900. Tungkol siya sa girlfriend ko na nag-break kami kasi kasalanan ko so parang inaamin mo na it's your fault tsaka yung regret na kasama dun, yun yung storya ng song."
Just this year, he got invited to play in Singapore and Malaysia to represent our country and Gomez shared his meaningful experience with us, "I played sa Singapore and Malaysia nung March tapos pumunta akong Cebu last month lang for Fete Dela Musique. Nakakatuwa yung sa Singapore kasi mabait sila. Sobrang warm ng mga tao. Di siya expected. Yung pinagtugtugan ko dun is parang school event lang siya na Original Music Society ng National University of Singapore," adding "Sa Malaysia, nag-guesting ako sa isang independent music channel nila dun, I Am TV. Tapos I played a show sa parang rehab center nila dun."
And now, Jensen Gomez is proud to present his newest album "UNDERSTATEMENTS"
which will be launched tomorrow at B-Side, The Collective, Makati. "Yung mga songs dun sa album ay "understatements" lang siya nung totoong nangyari, nung totoong score nung sa sitwasyon na nandun ako. It's a sad album," he revealed.
As for his personal favorite tracks on the album, he shared that Not Even Close and Alone are the closest to his heart, "Alone. It's a song na sobrang lungkot lang na alam mo yung feeling na pagising mo sa umaga, tapos kakabreak
niyo pa lang, first two weeks, pareho parin yung feeling. Titingnan mo parin yung phone mo, titingnan mo parin kung nag-text siya or hindi."
Being an unsigned and independent artist in the vast world of music, the painful struggle of being one didn't make him raise the white flag. He confessed to us that budget allocation was one of the greatest problems he had to go through, "Kasi indie eh. Yapos estudyante pa ako so kailangan maka-diskarte ng pinakamura at pinakalibre tapos okay parin yung quality. Tsaka yung scheduling mga tao." The album itself took over a year to be finalized but all he can say is, "Matagal, matagal siya.. pero worth it
