This is just the beginning of even greater things to come for the music industry!
Last July 14, the first-ever Philippine Popular Music Festival (PhilPOP), held at the PICC, featured a star-studded list of guest performers featuring some of the countryÆs very own music icons and a world-class stage designed by one of the PhilippinesÆ top production designers, Gino Gonzales. PhilPOP is a nationwide search for some of the most talented Filipino musical composers.
PhilPOP Executive Director Ryan Cayabyab said it best: "The PhilPop Musicfest Foundation Inc. is an advocate of Filipino music which is a cultural treasure, the identity of our people and our country. We seek to enrich original Filipino music and educate this and future generations on its uniqueness and importance. We seek to resound and preserve the vanishing perhaps forgotten musical gems from the rural areas. We seek to empower Filipino songwriters whose music can inspire and motivate a nation."
And the lucky winner of the P1 million grand prize and an Orlina-made trophy is none other than KARL VILLUGA with his song "Bawat Hakbang"! The former Akafellas member Villuga got some help from his former group mates and crooner Mark Bautista for his song.
"I couldn't believe it. I'm speechless. It's mixed emotions. Happy and even nervous still. Over all, it's a different feeling. Iba kasi na you win and this song is something personal to you. It's your creation and iba rin na that many people are there to share this win with you," shared Villuga in an exclusive interview with MYXph.com.
