It was probably the biggest and loudest concert of the year! Megadeth pleasantly pierced the eardrums of hundreds of Pinoy metal fans Sunday night. Formed backed in 1983 after Dave Mustaine was kicked out of Metallica, one of the so-called "Big 4 of thrash metal" has recorded a total of 13 albums and has been nominated for several Grammy awards. They are known to tackle religion, politics and socially-relevant topics in their loud and aggressive songs.
It was a night of "mega-rock" as the crowd headbanged and slammed to Megadeth hits like "Symphony of Destruction", "Peace Sells", "Sweating Bullets" and new song "Public Enemy No.1" from their current album "TH1RT3EN".
"This is our first time in Manila ... I have to tell you I'm very impressed!," said guitarist, vocalist and founder Dave Mustaine during the concert. Mustaine even revealed that his first ever girlfriend was a Filipina!
It was surely a night to remember for Manila's metal heads as typhoon "Gener" was as rowdy outside the World Trade Center's Hall D. Founders Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, together with current drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick finished off their long overdue Philippine visit performing "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" as an encore.
All in all, one of the pioneers of thrash metal delivered what was expected of them: metal mayhem caused by an awesome audio assault! But for now, I'll be searching for that complimentary hotel pencil which Dave Mustaine almost killed me with. =)
