Three members of the Russian Punk feminist protest band Pussy Riot have been found guilty of "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred". Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, Maria Alekhina, 24, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30 were sentenced to two years in prison in a Moscow court.

The girls got in huge trouble after their performance in February inside a Russian Orthodox cathedral as a protest against Russian President Vladimir Putin's ties with the Church.

The U.S. and the European Union were not in favor of the sentence and called it "disproportionate" while Russian state prosecutors wanted the band members to suffer an even longer term in jail.

International artists like Madonna Paul McCartney and Sting were among those who support Pussy Riot. Judge Marina Syrova claims that "the girl's actions were sacrilegious, blasphemous and broke the church's rules".
