They describe their sound as post punk, pop, psychedelic, folk wave, probably just because it's really hard to define their type of music. But the band with the signature deep Filipino lyrics layered with punk chords and attitude, which really made them popular with the masses, is back!
Join The Club is out with a music video for a new song which conveys the group's current mantra. The four piece band launches their "Bagong Panimula" music video on November 15 at the 70s Bistro in Anonas, Quezon City. "Bagong Panimula" will be the first single from their album "Gera Ng Balarila".
Join The Club rose to fame in 2005 when they drew attention during a popular beer brand's band competition, tracing their roots as roommates from the University of Santo Thomas. Their EP was noticed by a well known music producer, got picked up by a local major record label, and the rest they say is history.
After a noticeable absence from the Pinoy rock scene, due to the industry's status and a couple of line-up changes, there is no stopping current members, Biboy Renia, Migs Mendoza, Congie Lulu and Brian Lotho from making their much-awaited comeback.
Frontman Biboy Renia quotes T.S. Eliot saying: "Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." The band's chief lyricist reveals that the well-known poet and playwright greatly influenced the material for the new album.
It will definitely be a night of brave new music from the band that gave us hits such as "Lunes", "Nobela", "Tinig" and "Paano Sasabihin". They even posted some pics on their official fan page to give their fans what to expect at the launch.
Will they be sharing the stage with a string section? Find out on Thursday night!
To all you "punkistas" and "rakistas" who missed Join The Club, head out to the 70s Bistro on Thursday! Feel free to leave your comments below.
