Who says it's the end of the world? Psy makes a world record for earning 1 billion YouTube views when everyone's abuzz about doomsday! The Korean rapper's viral music video, "Gangnam Style" has made the record, within the year the video was released.
His funny music video has surpassed the record made by Justin Bieber with his track, "Baby" and has hit the billion less than a month after Psy beat the young pop star's online hits. Coincidentally, they are both handled by the same manager, Scooter Braun, who handles other 2012 breakout artist Carly Rae Jepsen. Psy tweeted him after the big news, owing a lot of his success to him:
@scooterbraun I made 100 million and you made the other 900!!! Brother with Another Mother !!!
Since he beat Bieber for the hits, "Gangnam Style" on YouTube has earned 6.5 million views a day or 76.4 views per second according to Billboard
. His earnings, just from the views alone, are already worth $ 2,000,000.
The video, as Psy dubbed it #BillionStyle currently has 1,011,995,729 views as of this writing. And is continuously gaining more hits with almost 12 million additional views overnight since reaching the billion.
Psy was originally scheduled to perform in the Philippines last December 20 along with artists such as Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro and AiAi Delas Alas at the MOA Concert Grounds but the concert was postponed to February 2013. He could've celebrated the billion in Manila!
