Last night, OPM had one of its biggest celebration in history, the Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs Finals Night. The 12 interpreters came together to perform the original compositions from a new breed of songwriters.
Hosted by Megan Young, Matteo Guidicelli, Xian Lim and Kim Chiu, the night started with an amazing collaboration from Young JV, Zia Quizon, Abra and Bamboo where they performed "Meron Akong Ano," "Bebot," Zia's "Ako Na Lang," Abra's "Gayuma" and Gloc-9's "Sirena" performed by Abra and Zia.
The competition started as the 12 interpreters performed on-stage starting off with Yeng Constantino (Alaala), Marion Aunor (If You Ever Change Your Mind), Jovit Baldivino (Sana'y Magbalik), Aiza Seguerra (Anong Nangyari Sa Ating Dalawa), Juris (Hanggang Wakas), Erik Santos (This Song Is For You), Bugoy Drilon (Pwede Bang Ako Na Lang Ulit), KZ Tandingan (Scared To Death), Daniel Padilla (Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat), Angeline Quinto (One Day), Wynn Andrada (Tamang Panahon), and Toni Gonzaga (Kahit Na).
To break off the tension, the audience were treated by a performance from Bituin Escalante, Ana Fegi, and Concert King Martin Nievera, who performed some of the best Himig Handog Love Songs from the past.
Daniel Padilla's "Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat," written and composed by Jungee Marcelo, bagged 4 of 5 special awards: MOR's Choice, Astig Tambayan 101.9's Choice, Star Records Buyer's Choice, and MYX Best Music Video.
"This Song Is For You," written and composed by Jude Gitamondoc, interpreted by Erik Santos took home the TFC Choice special award.
Julius James De Belen's song "Kahit Na," interpreted by Toni Gonzaga, placed 4th runner-up and won P100,000.00 in cash.
3rd runner-up went to "Scared To Death," written and composed by Domingo Rosco, Jr. and interpreted by KZ Tandingan. Rosco, Jr. received P150,000.00.
Marion Aunor, who went emotional during her heart-felt performance of "If You Ever Change Your Mind," won 2nd runner-up and cash amounting to P200,000.00.
"Hanggang Wakas" by Soc Villanueva and interpreted by Juris Fernandez bagged 1st runner-up and P500,000.00 cash prize.
And finally, the grand winner of the Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs went to "Anong Nangyari Sa Ating Dalawa" by Joven Tan, interpreted by Aiza Seguerra. Aside from the trophy, Joven is bringing home 1 million pesos.
Joven and Aiza received a standing ovation from the audience and the judges after being announced as the grand winner. Aiza gave a very emotional and heart-felt performance of the song, making the audience shed tears while listening to her.
