8 talented college musicians, 4 coveted spots, one band û the competition is heating up in search for The MartyÆs! After a long search from different schools across the Metro, these bunch of budding rockstars are in it to win it for 100,000 pesos, a tour with their newest band The MartyÆs, and a shot at musical glory.
TheyÆre just ordinary kids with extraordinary gifts to perform. Curious to what makes them special? We sat down with Eunice Gatdula, Sud Ballecer, Chii Balanaa, Nokie Dalangin, Bam Butalid, Jay-R Castro, Christian Malubay and Leo Bonife and found out what makes them the perfect addition to The MartyÆs:
Eunice Gatdula, 17, Asia Pacific College
She may be quiet and low-key but she has full of interesting ideas that quite surprise her friends! Winning The MartyÆs will mean a lot to her parents but she has one little favor û use some of the prize money to buy concert tickets!
Sud Ballecer, 22, University Of Santo Tomas
Sud is confident that just like his idols, Johnoy Danao, Cynthia Alexander, Ebe Dancel, Gloc-9 and the Eraserheads, he can rock any crowd in any venue because of his showmanship and high energy!
THE LEAD GUITARISTS
Chii Balanaa, 21, University Of Santo Tomas
His music dreams started by getting inspired by his family especially his sister, dad and lola playing the piano. Now, heÆs on the way to making it happen though his secret weapon: his oh so tasty guitar licks!
Nokie Dalangin, 17, De La Salle University
This MartyÆs CracklinÆ Chicken Inasal snacker kinda admits that he sometimes put music first because itÆs been his life long passion and dream. He may be studying Engineering now but who knows where The MartyÆs can take him!
Bam Butalid, 21, Asia Pacific College
Inspired by the band Bamboo and his idol bassists, Nathan Azarcon and Louie Talan, Bam gets to improvise to give the right groove to any song heÆs playing. His specialty û funk!
Jay-R Castro, 21, Pamantasan Ng Montalban
This bassist may go hard on the rhythm section but he has a sweet side to him. Win or lose, heÆs already glad to have made friends among the 8 finalists and when he wins, he promises to always be there for The MartyÆs as a bassist and also as a bro. Aww.
Christian Malubay, 17, STI
When Christian first started out, he shared that not all people wanted to hear him play. But because of them, he was motivated and get better at drumming. He even landed his first gig û at a wake! Scary but exciting at the same time!
Leo Bonife, 18, Pamantasan Ng Lungsod Ng Maynila
As a drummer, Leo considers 3 things as important: 1. Speed ûHe looks up to Bords Burdeos of Kamikazee as his speed coach. 2. Showmanship û For flair and intensity, Marco Ho of Giniling Festival is the man to watch. 3. The listeners û Before he hits the drums, he wants to make sure that the plays for the audience û not too loud, not too soft, but just right.
The pressure is on for these hopefuls as the finals get nearer. With the esteemed panel of judges, comedian Ramon Bautista, rock advocate Gang Badoy, actress Saab Magalona, rocker-director RA Rivera and music composer Francis De Veyra, the final 8 will have to give their all to be hailed one of the final four musicians to form The MartyÆs.
