Iconic and multi-platinum-selling band Rivermaya makes their comeback in the recording scene with the release of their album "Panatang Makabanda". This is the band's first in four years and the initial effort under record label Universal Records.
The group also went through another batch of personnel changes for this album. The current line-up is former drummer Mark Escueta now on guitars, Mike Elgar still on lead guitars, plus new acquisitions Norby David on bass and Ryan Peralta on drums; with Escueta, Elgar and David sharing vocal duties.
"I'm sure a lot of my fellow musicians will agree that one of the most important things that keeps a band going is something that is not so musical in nature. It's called laughter. Diyan mayaman ang Rivermaya ngayon, tawanan, pagkakaibigan at bagong musika, said the only remaining founding Rivermaya member Escueta.
The song "Pilipinas, Kailan Ka Magigising" written by Mark, is the first single off of the album. He says it should serve as a reminder for all Pinoys to avoid crab mentality.
"In the early stages of recording, this song became the initial favorite of the group. It's also a fun song to play live. Maganda 'yung message ng kanta and very timely rin since election time na naman tayo," said the drummer-turned-guitarist.
