Rico Blanco was triumphant in his solo concert Wednesday night at the Music Museum.
Dubbed "Rico Blanco Live!", the sold-out event showcased the artist's talents in his first big gig after splitting from his band five years ago.
"Believe it or not it's my first major solo concert so I'm happy you all came out to support," said Blanco in one of his spiels.
Family, friends and even fans from way back when he was a Rivermaya member, were present during the the event coinciding with the country's 115th Independence Day.
Rico, who also directed the show, also thanked the crowd for their effort in attending a concert by an OPM act.
"For many of you it's your first time to my show. For some even, it's their first time to a concert of a local artist. Don't laugh. There's some of us who's a little late in the game, its' alright. A big hand for everyone for showing up tonight. It doesn't matter when you appreciated local music, the fact is you do, and that's what matters."
Anthemic Rivermaya tracks, as well as songs from his solo albums: "Your Universe" and the current "Galactik Fiestamatik", were given life in a spectacle of lights and sound.
Rico's colleagues from the music industry also made the night extra special. Taken By Cars opened up the show. Ira Cruz played a guitar solo before supplying the riffs on "Sayaw". Kitchie Nadal, who is also Rico's cousin, sang with him on "214". Chito Miranda jammed via a pre-recorded video clip on "Panahon Na Naman Ng Pag-Ibig".
