Are you a big fan of turntables? Did you ever wish of becoming a DJ scratching the best tunes in a club or even at your home? For sure, you'll enjoy reading this!
World-renowned turntablist DJ Qbert was in town a couple of weeks ago as he hosted a workshop held in Makati and we got a little of his time to chat with him and talk about his career, and turntablism (also known as scratching) in general.
DJ Qbert, Richard Quitevis in real life, is a Filipino-American turntablist and composer. "I've been scratching since 1985," he shared. "I've been doing it for a long time and I hope to be doing it for even a longer time," he continued.
Tagged as the Greatest DJ in the World and one of the most influential DJs of all time, DJ Qbert is one of the only two DJs in history to be Knighted by the Grand Masters of the Hip Hop culture.
"You'll always be a student in life, the fun never stops. It just keeps going on and on and on. The road to success is never-ending," he said.
Qbert revealed that he always liked hip-hop music and break-dancing. "The music that they had was this type of music. I love it so much, it's funky and fun. I have the most enjoyment of scratching and playing the turntable like a musical instrument... The most important thing is that sometimes it makes people happy."
If you want to follow the footsteps of the greatest of all time, DJ Qbert himself has an advice for you!
"Just have fun! Use your God-given talents to make the world a better place. Always be a student. The ultimate happiness is giving and the ultimate evil is selfishness so the more you give, the more it gives back to you."
