Akon Delivers "Freedom"

Akon, international multi-platinum singer/songwriter, producer and entrepreneur, bestows the blessings of FREEDOM to millions of fans worldwide, in the form of his third studio album on Konvict/Upfront/ SRC/Universal Motown. A five-time Grammy nominee, Senegal native AKONÆs previous album was the RIAA triple-platinum-certified "Konvicted".

The albumÆs first smash, ôRight Now (Na Na Na),ö shot out of the gate with an immediate top 10 entry in iTunesÆ most-downloaded Top Songs chart, where it has remained since its first week of digital release in late September. The song is still picking up radio play, having reached the top 5 in Rhythm-Crossover airplay nationally, and is currently bulleting toward the top 10 at Mainstream Top 40 radio.

On the streets all of one day, FREEDOM has already proven itself every bit the hit machine its predecessor was. Released to radio and digital retail two weeks after ôRight Now,ö ôIÆm So Paid,ö a summit meeting of superstars featuring Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy, is currently bulleting inside of the Top 25 airplay charts in both the Rhythm-Crossover and Urban formats. ôTroublemaker,ö the albumÆs third single, featuring Sweet Rush, has joined the previous two in the Billboard national Hot 100 singles chart. Highlighting FREEDOM, the title track is an extraordinary autobiographical statement, building in rhythm and intensity to a rousing anthemic conclusion. Also, AKON is joined by Konvict-label platinum hitmaker T-Pain for ôHolla Holla,ö which entered the iTunes Top Songs chart on its day of release. Kardinal Offishall, Ray Lavender and Wyclef Jean also guest on the album.

Since his first album release in 2004, Akon has become not only a global superstar, but also head of the Konvict Entertainment label (rubbing shoulders at the top of the charts with his own artists T-Pain, Lady GaGa, Kardinal Offishall, Colby OÆDonis, Flipsyde and R. City), as well as a fashion entrepreneur with two apparel lines, Konvict Clothing and Aliaune, and a philanthropist, establishing the Konfidence Foundation.

In 2007, Akon became the first artist in music history to hold simultaneous No.1 and No. 2 positions on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart twice. Akon was Billboard MagazineÆs Top Artist of 2007 and Top Male Artist overall. He was also No. 3 Top Billboard 200 Artist, and No. 1 Top Male Billboard 200 Artist, on the album chart. On the Billboard singles chart, he was No. 1 Hot 100 Artist and Hot 100 Male Artist. He was also No. 2 Hot 100 Producer of the year, and No. 2 Hot 100 Songwriter of the year.

Akon won the 2007 American Music Award for Best Male Soul/R&B Artist and was honored three times at the World Music Awards. He has achieved gold and platinum certifications in twenty-three countries with the album KONVICTED and its singles -- the No. 1 hits ôDon't Matter,ö and Grammy nominee ôI Wanna Love You;ö along with the No. 2 Grammy-nominated ôSmack Thatö featuring Eminem. AkonÆs first album was the two-million-selling SRC/Universal Motown 2004 release TROUBLE, which included the worldwide smashes ôLocked Upö and ôLonely.ö
